Catechesis, or reliable religious formation, is necessary for every adult. Even in good times the world offers many distractions that can lead us away from God, away from the goal of eternal happiness. On-going Catholic adult education is nothing more than staying close and attentive to God through deep, prayerful consideration and reflection upon the truths of Christ. Further, the reception of Catholic adult education will also be necessary for those baptized individuals seeking to complete their initiation into the Church in the sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.
The seeking and discerning adult can gain such an education in many ways in the Catholic Church: by attending Mass and listening to the words of the liturgy, by meditating on the wisdom of the Gospel and readings, and by the encouragement and exhortation of good homilies. The adult can also read good Catholic books, the Bible, faithful Catholic periodicals, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Here at St. Julie Billiart we hold seasonal parish missions that allow attendees to grow in their faith during special holy seasons such as Lent. We print a weekly parish bulletin that includes regular catechesis. We also present one-on-one or group adult preparation for reception of the sacraments. We also maintain a parish library with good Catholic books for daily reading.
Our priests and staff will also provide an Adult Education Series and Bible Study on specific themes relevant to Church teaching which are timeless in addressing the world’s problems. Our priests and staff are also available to take your questions about the faith in person and by email to guide you in the faith.
Most of all, adult education calls the adult to continuous conversion. By growing in the knowledge and the love of God through a life of grace, prayer, and study, the adult Christian draws closer to an imitation of Christ and to true and enduring happiness.
Please check the parish bulletin for the most recent Adult Education offerings.
