Knights of Columbus – Father Hogan Council
The Knights of Columbus is a Roman Catholic fraternal and charitable organization with 16,000 councils and 2 million members around the world. The Knights come together in Charity, Unity & Fraternity. The Knights of Columbus also adds a fourth core principle of Patriotism. These four foundational principles are laid solidly in the daily practice of Catholic faith and teaching.
Father Michael J. McGivney, who was beatified by Pope Francis on October 31, 2020, founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 at Saint Mary’s in New Haven, CT, as a Catholic lay organization consisting of local councils committed to unity and the care and service of its members’ widows, to charity toward those in the surrounding community, and to Christian fraternity among its fellow knights.
St. Julie Billiart Parish is the home of the Knights of Columbus’ Father Hogan Council which serves the Dartmouth parishes of St. Julie and St. Mary, while opening its membership to men of other local parishes.
Thus, “Columbianism” is the activity in which Catholic men venture out in unity and fraternity to improve the lives of others by injecting Christian honor and virtue into the family, community and the world. Your parish Knights of Columbus council, the Father Hogan Council 14236 supports the parish work of St. Mary and St. Julie as well as upholding the cause of life, religious freedom, and the joy of the natural law which God placed into the heart and soul of every person on earth.
