Confirmation – Giuseppe Crespi
Confirmation is the sacrament in which, through the laying on of hands, anointing with chrism, and prayer, those already baptized are strengthened by the Holy Spirit in order that they may steadfastly profess the faith and faithfully live up to their profession (Catechism, 1288-1289). Confirmation is a sacrament which has its foundation in apostolic times (cf. Acts 8:17).
Each person receiving Confirmation is emboldened by grace to make a profession of faith. A profession of faith is more than just speaking words. It is a public acknowledgment of the faith, such that the Christian brings the Gospel of Jesus Christ out into the world. Every earnest profession of faith requires courage and fortitude gifted by the Holy Spirit, which is why the Latin root of Confirmation, confirmatio, means “fortification” or “strengthening.”
At St. Julie Billiart Church children are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in three tiers.
First, 6th graders participate in the “Encounter” series through Ascension Press which allows students to learn about the Bible and share in the love of Sacred Scripture.
Next, 7th graders are introduced to the “Altaration” series which leads them into the mystery and love of the Holy Mass.
Lastly, 8th and 9th graders participate in the “Chosen” program by Ascension Press that leads students from the creation story all the way through salvation history, as they learn the fundamentals of prayer and discipleship needed to lead a happy life in Christ.
